‘Sans Bon Sens’

I look upon the treasures of the
world up close as the sun
penetrates my skin.
The smell of figs and
sunscreen lingers in my nostrils,
yet in this field of divinity,
all I can think of is you.

I’m a flurry of limbs
as I make my way through
these coveted palaces –
yet you make me falter.
For all I see is the way your
arms so easily wrap around
me and I stop in my tracks,
shuddering as the image
starts to dissipate.

I do my best to ignore it,
but how can I distract myself
from a distraction?
How can I evade something as
exquisite as you?
I was foolish to think such
an indulgence should come free of
angst.
Now, here I sit, hoping I’m lucky
enough to stare into your
inescapable eyes once more.

I wrote ‘Sans Bon Sens’ whilst traveling through France at the age of 17. To this day, it is the happiest piece I have ever written. To see even more of the divinities I allude to, look at the featured images on my Instagram!
